Baird socked by broken back

NSW Premier Mike Baird has broken his back in a fall in his home on Monday night.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Mr Baird shared an X-ray image of his fractured vertebra (pictured), saying the injury required a "slowish recovery but no need for surgery”.

He said he slipped while walking down the stairs on the way to getting a glass of water.

He wrote on Facebook, "Note to self: when fetching a glass of water late at night, don't walk down the stairs in your socks with the lights out.” A spokesman for Mr Baird said he was "sore, but mobile”.
