Bailey has faith Blues will finally secure Origin victory

FORMER New South Wales prop Luke Bailey believes the Blues have got the team to finally end Queensland's seven-series winning streak this year.

But he called on the star-studded side to start showing more belief in its ability.

"New South Wales players need to back themselves and show some belief. That's what they've been lacking a little bit of," he said.

"In the past they've been guilty of trying to compete with Queensland, rather than trying to beat them, I suppose.

"They've got youth and experience. If the boys get on the back of Birdy (Titans and NSW lock Greg Bird), we should be right."

Bailey, 33, also threw his support behind discarded Blues prop Tim Grant, and left-out Tigers bookend Aaron Woods.

"They're only young fellas - they've got a lot of time ahead of them, so I'm sure they'll bide their time and get another opportunity," he said.

Bailey said 121kg Titans front-rower Ryan James was ready to help lead the Titans through the Origin period in the absence of Bird, and Maroons back-rowers Nate Myles and Ashley Harrison.

"If you take away last week, he (Ryan James) has been averaging 30-40 tackles. For a big unit, that's a lot of work," Bailey said.

The man they call "Bull" recently signed on for next season, saying he believed the experience of the Bird, Myles and Harrison, combined with the likes of James and Mark Ioane, could make the team a premiership contender.

"We've definitely got the calibre of players to be up there in the top four," he said.
