World record brewing as team aims to create a 150kg teabag
SOME people like to dunk their teabag and others like to swirl but it would be hard to find a giant teacup to stir a 150kg world record-breaking teabag.
The team at Coolum's Planet Organic is in the kitchen concocting the creation in an attempt to break the Guinness Book of Records listing for the world's biggest teabag.
The record is 120kg, held by a team from the United Kingdom but Planet Organics sales and marketing manager Brian Condon thinks they can beat that.
The team has 150kg of green tea leaves on standby to fill a 2.8m x 2.3m teabag which took 20 hours to stitch together.
"I was looking for something amusing to put on our Facebook page and I saw a link to a world's biggest tea bag story, and I then jokingly suggested we try and beat the record," Mr Condon said.
"Everybody jumped on board and it has snowballed from there. We have put 150kg before, but now we have to weigh it officially and send it off to be verified for the record.
"Unofficially, it is already the biggest teabag and we thought, why not team that success with the World's Biggest Morning Tea?"
The world-record attempt comes as the Cancer Council Queensland is recruiting Sunshine Coast people to host a World's Biggest Morning Tea on May 23.
Cancer Council Queensland Sunshine Coast fundraising co-ordinator Jodi Durkin said the World's Biggest Morning Tea was the most popular and most successful fundraising event of the year for the charity.
Last year, 800 hosted a morning tea on the Coast helped to raise $280,000 for the Cancer Council.
"It's fantastic Planet Organic are taking on the challenge," Mrs Durkin said.
"It gets our message out there of the World's Biggest Morning Tea.
''It helps us get hosts of their own morning tea on the Sunshine Coast.''
