FLAVOUR is king in MasterChef, and a lack of it sent Ava Stangherlin home.
The young cook lost last night's reinvention test thanks to a dish that lacked any of the orange flavour needed to successfully put a modern twist on the classic '70s dish Duck A L'Orange.
"I went into that elimination nervous enough already, and then as soon as I saw Justine Schofield walk in I thought 'Oh no it's French'," Stangherlin told APN.
"From then on I knew I would have to work for it."
But there was no time for reflecting on her time on the reality cooking show.
The 23-year-old landed a job at Sydney's Hotel Centennial immediately after her elimination.
"I was in the cab on the way to the airport leaving MasterChef and I called the head chef, Tom Deadman," she said.
"I did a bit of work experience with him before (going on the show). He had me in there the next day talking about my options.
"I've been doing that pretty much as soon as I left the competition."
She tips the show's dessert experts Reynold Poernomo and Ashleigh Bareham as the show's current frontrunners.
"Ashleigh is putting up some amazing dishes," she said.
"But then you've got people like Stephen (Rooney) who is growing and learning... it's a bit line ball for me at this point."
MasterChef airs Sundays through Thursdays at 7.30pm on Channel 10.
