Australia's most attractive employer named

QANTAS has been named Australia's most attractive company for job seekers by employment firm Randstad, beating out the Victorian government and the ABC.

The national carrier, which edged out last year's winner Virgin Australia, was picked for its "innovation with technology, financial health and strong reputation", rating highly among those in the 18-24 and 45-65 age brackets.

The awards, which cover the nation's 150 largest employers by workforce size and are based a survey of 7795 potential job seekers, named aviation as the most attractive sector for the fourth year in a row, thanks to its financial stability, reputation and travel opportunities.

"It's no surprise that the aviation industry continues to be named the most attractive sector year after year,"

Randstad chief executive Frank Ribuot said in a statement. "Aussies love to travel and working for an airline offers not only the opportunity to travel the world, but also financial compensation and real opportunities for career development."

Work-life balance was named as the top consideration for job seekers, followed by job security, a pleasant work atmosphere and career progression.

"Unfortunately, employers aren't always offering enough balance, which creates a gap between what employees are seeking and what employers are actually offering," Mr Ribuot said. "Companies that are able to recognise and bridge the gap will be able to attract and retain the best talent."

The Victorian government, the second most attractive employer, ranked well due to job security, financial health and opportunities for career progression, while the ABC scored highly for reputation, offering a stimulating and challenging workplace, and innovation with latest technologies.
