Australian Open: Disqualified for hitting ball into ball kid

ITALIAN junior player Maria Vittoria Viviani has been disqualified from the Australian Open after hitting a ball into a ball kid.

Viviani was automatically disqualified from her first round match against Xin Yu Wang, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

After Viviani dropped the first set 6-2, she reportedly hit a ball across the court in frustration.

A video of the incident has been posted on Twitter, which shows Viviani apologise as soon as she realises the ball kid has been hit.

However that wasn't enough for the umpire who immediately disqualified the 17-year-old, giving Wang direct entry to the second round where she will face top seed Rebeka Masarova.
