Aussies win opening matches of Trans-Tasman series
TOUCH FOOTBALL: The Trans-Tasman Touch Football Test Series is in full flight on the Sunshine Coast.
The event proper got under-way on Friday, when Australia edged New Zealand 9-6 in the opening match.
Australia's mixed team member Leah Percy was delighted to start the campaign with a victory.
"It was really good to get the first win. We've still got a lot to work on, a lot to prove, but it was really great to get a win under our belt."
"I thought our debutants did really well. There's a lot of nerves before going into your first Test match so I thought they did really well and we just combined really well as a team."

Australia and New Zealand also collided in men's and women's matches on Friday night.
The Aussies won those matches 5-2 and 10-3 respectively to take command of the series.
The teams will meet again on Saturday and on Sunday.
The carnival also welcomed Japan for warm-up games on Wednesday and Thursday.
