Au revoir Australia?

THE future looks bright for Australian basketball star Marianna Tolo, despite uncertainty about next season in the WNBL.

First there are the London Olympics in July, followed by a possible stint playing basketball in the south of France at Aix en Provence.

Former Mackay player Tolo, 22, is this week training with the Australian Opals squad at Canberra in preparation for the Olympics.

"I went to the world championships in 2010, but I've never been to an Olympics," she said.

"To win a gold medal at the Olympics would be incredible."

The Opals will gather for another camp in May, after which the final team for the Olympics will be named.

Tolo was reported to be moving on from the Canberra Capitals, which played in last season's WNBL grand final but missed the recent 2012 finals.

But she said nothing was decided for next season's WNBL.

"I have not signed anywhere yet, nothing's 100%," she said.

"At the moment I have an offer from a team in the south of France, Aix en Provence.

"One of the girls I play with in Canberra and on the Opals team, Natalie Hurst, plays there.

"It would be a massive challenge. It's far from family and friends but it would be a good experience and one that not many people get to do.

"It would be something to learn from and help my professional career in basketball.

"It's something I'd definitely like to do."

The French season is from September to May, and Tolo said she was likely to make a decision in the next month or so.

Tolo said this season's WNBL had been difficult for the Capitals and herself.

"It was completly different from what we normally are able to achieve," she said.

"It was the first time in 10 years we have not made the finals.

"It was a hard season for me: before Christmas I did my ankle, I had a few weeks off and came back and played the rest of the season.

"I think I did all right but I could have done better."
