Artists help with tower funding

LOCAL artists have contributed to Marine Rescue Ballina’s efforts to get a new tower on North Wall to replace the current leaning one.

Commander of the volunteer rescue group formerly known as the coast guard, Norm Lannoy, said Marine Rescue Ballina had raised more than $200,000, which will be needed to fit out the new tower.

He said at a sponsors function that work is expected to start on the new tower in Ballina Shire Council’s 2011/2012 budget year.

Council has set aside $1.7m for the project.

Meanwhile, Ballina Arts and Craft Centre Inc (BACCI) handed over $300 to Marine Rescue Ballina, raised at the summer exhibition at which 145 paintings and crafts were on display.

Winners of the raffle held were Geoff Bell, Mark Davis and Stan Golding.
