Arrest warrant on 'sex on bus' woman

An arrest warrant has been issued for a woman who had sex on the back seat of a bus in NSW's Hunter region during a morning commute.

Wonder French, 31, was due to be sentence on Tuesday in Newcastle Local Court over the sex romp, but failed to appear.

Magistrate Peter Barnett said it was the second time in a week French had not attended court and issued a warrant for her arrest.

He also convicted her in her absence of two counts of assaulting police, one count of resisting police and one count of obstructing police in a separate incident in August.

The court was told French had been contacted by an Aboriginal Legal Service lawyer on Monday and promised to attend court on Tuesday, but was a no-show.

She was caught having sex with Ryan Jones, 24, after getting on a bus at Charlestown at 9.50am on March 29.

French pleaded guilty to offensive behaviour, inciting the commission of crimes and using offensive language after initially denying the charges.

Mr Barnett had previously ordered a sentencing assessment report for French who was homeless, an ice user, suffered mental health issues and had ongoing domestic violence issues.

The charges against Jones were dropped due to mental health issues.

Court documents revealed bus driver Hugh Williams looked in his rear view mirror and saw Jones and French having sex on the back seat.

When the bus driver stopped to pick up a female passenger at Warners Bay, he ordered the pair off the bus "as their sexual behaviour was offensive to others".

Mr Williams told the pair: "You can't be doing what you're doing on a public vehicle."

Jones replied: "Don't kick us off. We gotta get to the Toronto Drug Court."

Police alleged French was inciting Jones to be abusive and violent, yelling: "Tell him to get f***ed. It's not his f***ing bus. Tell him to f*** off."

The bus driver became concerned and activated the duress alarm before Jones told him, "I'm gunna get locked up if I don't get to court you f***ing dog" and spat on him.

When the pair tried to get on a second bus and were rejected, French abused the driver, Brett Teasdale, telling him: "Do what you're f***ing told c***. It's public transport so you have to f***ing take us."

French then incited Jones to be more abusive and violent by telling him: "You're going to be locked up anyway babe. Just do it."

Jones then told Mr Teasdale, "I'll f***ing smash you c***. I'll come up there and smash you" before the driver decided to evacuate passengers from the bus.
