A SMALL army of police, including detectives from Maryborough and the Sunshine Coast, have joined Gympie officers in searching for a man, in relation to an alleged violent home invasion in Gympie early Sunday morning.

They say the man, 43, may be driving a blue 2002 Mitsubishi Pajero wagon with the registration number 729GJL (similar to the one in the photo below).

Det A/Sgt Reegan Cunningham says the man 43 may be able to help police with information and they are concerned for his safety.

Forensic investigators were yesterday at the Struan Cres scene of the 4am incident, which A/Sgt Cunningham described as "a serious assault."

The acting Gympie CIB head said two people in the house  at the time were now in Royal Brisbane Hospital.

A male 27, was in a stable condition with head injuries, but a woman, 37, had multiple head and torso injuries and is in a condition which A/Sgt Cunningham described as "life threatening."

He said police had "no grave concerns" that the 43-year-old man, a Gympie resident, posed a threat to public safety, but said anyone seeing him should not to approach him or the vehicle.
