Appeal against conviction for murder of Byron's Jack Garda

THE man convicted of the 2010 murder of Byron Bay businessman John "Jack" Garda at Lennox Head is planning to appeal both his sentence and conviction.

Lawyers for Lennox Head man Kevin Purtill have lodged a notice of intention to appeal.

Purtill was sentenced to 28 years with a non- parole period of 21 years in the Supreme Court on December 14, 2012.

His defence barrister Mark Dennis has until April 30 to lodge documents with the Court of Criminal Appeal.
