Drive-through coffee shops the buzzing trend of the moment

ANOTHER city drive-through coffee shop is set to open, in a growing trend for Toowoomba caffeine addicts.

The latest café will open in a new convenience complex in an industrial area of Harristown.

The opening of the new café will follow the opening of a second branch of drive-through café Pump 123 at Wyalla Plaza in April.

The Russell St store opened three and a half years ago.

LJ Hooker Toowoomba director Julie Stewart, whose agency is leasing the complex, said a growing appreciation of coffee was behind the growth in drive-through cafes.

"There's no doubt about it. Our coffee consumption is going through the roof.

"People want more of it, and they want it faster, and these sorts of drive-through cafes are just the start of an emerging trend."

Pump 123 owner Tracie Batzloff said the idea to open as a drive-through had initially come about simply through the site they had purchased.

"The site was a drive-through chemist, so it was already in place.

"I just think we thought, well, let's serve through a drive through. People are always in a hurry.

"These days, everyone drinks coffee... it's incredible.

"It's a coffee culture. You drive down the street and everyone's walking to work with a coffee in their hands."

Mrs Batzloff said the second store at Wyalla had been extremely well-received.

"It's again, mums with the kids in the car, the tradies, business people. It's a very broad customer base.

"Even the elderly - it's just them getting the confidence of how it all works, talking to a speaker box.

"The pressure's on to get through the orders quickly. That's our main focus.

"It's very easy if people order one or two - if they order six and eight that can hold up the line.

"We just try our best to keep everyone moving."
