Outpouring of support continues for doctor injured in crash

AN OUTPOURING of community support has come for long-term Alstonville GP Dr Nigel Chamberlain since a serious cycling crash last month.

Dr Chamberlain suffered serious head injuries when he crashed his bicycle on Dillons Lane, Alstonville onSeptember 23.

The 60-year-old experienced cyclist was airlifted to the Gold Coast University hospital in a critical condition and placed in an inducedcoma.

Since the incident, The Northern Star has received numerous inquiries about the popular doctor's condition.

Alstonville Medical Centre practice manager Christine Henderson said the support received for Dr Chamberlain since the crash was amazing.

"We have been very encouraged by the support of the community. It has been wonderful," she said.

"We are not in a position to comment about Dr Chamberlain's medical condition at the moment as we simply don't know."

Gifts have been arriving regularly at the medical centre where Dr Chamberlain worked for more than 20 years.

A Gold Coast University hospital spokesman said Dr Chamberlain's condition remained stable yesterday.
