Alleged jihadist arrested as authorities swoop on house

AN ALLEGED jihadist who sparked an Australian Defence alert was arrested in Sydney overnight.

Counter terrorism, state and federal police officers swooped on a home at Auburn about 11.pm.

A 23-year-old man was arrested and charged with use a carriage service to make a threat and threatening to cause harm to an ASIO officer.

He was on bail for offences linked to an ATM robbery in 2011.

According to News.com.au, defence forces said a nationwide warning was issued in response to "vengeful and hateful material posted by the main against officials in the past.

The man's passport was allegedly seized after he visited Afghanistan earlier this year.

He has been refused bail and will appear in the Burwood court today.
