All clear given after bomb squad probes device at police HQ

POLICE have revoked an emergency declaration after a suspicious device was found in the carpark behind police headquarters this afternoon.

The declaration was made earlier this afternoon in relation to the discovery of an item near Police Headquarters.

"Specialist police have examined the item and it has been deemed non-suspicious,'' police said in a statement a short time ago.

The bomb squad arrived at the carpark on Makerston Street.

The device, which looks like a pipe bomb according to reports, was discovered shortly after 2pm.

During the height of the drama, Makerston Street was closed and some staff at police headquarters evacuated.

Anyone who knows anything should contact Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000.
