All Betts are off: Tuohy keen to avoid reunion with Crow

IT'S the job no one wants. Certainly not Geelong defender Zach Tuohy.

Minding Adelaide Crows goalsneak Eddie Betts has become one of the toughest challenges in footy - especially at the Adelaide Oval, where he averages almost three goals a game.

Tuohy is looking forward to catching up with his old Carlton teammate but has offered up fellow Cats backman Jed Bews for the task of trying to restrict Betts in Friday's preliminary final.

Bews did, after all, keep Betts scoreless when the teams last met in round 18, despite the Crows winning by 21 points.

"Jed is in great form ... at least that is what I am telling Scarlo (backline coach Matthew Scarlett). He's got a good record on Eddie, so it is probably a good idea if he goes to him," the Irishman said.

The Cats actually have an outstanding recent record of curbing Betts' influence, holding him to just four goals in their past four clashes with the Crows.

But Tuohy, who spent three seasons playing with Betts at the Blues, knows how dangerous he can be and will be ready to assist.

Tuohy has played 113 consecutive games - the last 24 with the Cats - but will contest his first preliminary final.

"I'm sure I'll get nervous before the game but I am not finding it too hard to treat it just like a normal game to be honest," said Tuohy, who has played more minutes than any player this season.

He said friends and family might make the trip to Australia if the Cats progress to the grand final, but he was adamant about one thing.

"I'm not paying," Tuohy said.

The Cats backline should regain fullback Tom Lonergan after he missed the semi-final win over Sydney with food poisoning.
