THE trailer for Alien: Covenant has been released and it is terrifying.

Directed by Ridley Scott, the movie is a sequel to 2012's Prometheus which is a prequel to the original Alien movie.

The trailer doesn't give too much away apart from the fact that Alien: Covenant is going to be one hell of a scary movie.

And that's exactly how Michael Fassbender, who reprises his role as David, described the movie:

"It's much scarier than Prometheus but it's got the same sort of scope of Prometheus," he said to Collider.

"It's kind of got more of the sort of thriller, imminent disaster feel that Alien had, so it's kind of a beautiful meeting of both of those films. I'm really excited to see it, I think it's gonna be super scary number one and then again with the massive scope of Prometheus … Once it starts and the ball starts rolling, it doesn't let up. It's really gonna bring chills to the cinema."

According to 20th Century Fox, the movie is about: "The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape."

Alien: Covenant, which was filmed at Fox Studios in Sydney, will be released in May 2017.
