Agency looks to fill 1000 jobs
AN IPSWICH employment agency has set itself a tough goal: helping place 1000 unemployed people in work within the next 100 days.
NORTEC Staffing Solutions, which has headquarters in Tweed Heads but services the Ipswich region, launched its latest job campaign this week.
Now in its seventh year, the campaign aims to align employers with their future employees as soon as possible.
The jobs driver will be a welcome relief for jobseekers, as latest figures show unemployment in the region as one of the highest in the state, with a jobless rate of 6.4% (ABS, June 2016).
NORTEC marketing manager Michelle Dowding said the campaign was off to a strong start with employers looking to hire workers from all areas, and many looking for mature-aged employees.
"There's a big response from employers about hiring employees over 50 because the government did a big campaign and there's up to $10,000 wage subsidies attached," Ms Dowding said.
Ms Dowding said retail and hospitality jobs were still the biggest employment drivers across all the regions but "in places like Ipswich there's a lot of manufacturing and trade jobs available".
NORTEC business development officer Donna Bowmer said there was a variety of jobs in Ipswich, but people were still more likely to find a job if they did a bit of research beforehand.
"If people want to work locally, they really have to look at the industries this area particular area is strong in," Ms Bowmer said.
Last year NORTEC fell just 40 jobs short of its target across both NSW and Queensland , but Ms Dowding said she was confident they would reach their target this year.
