Action on Black Hd

BALLINA Shire Council decided last week to research the history of quarrying at Ballina's Black Head in the 1960s to ascertain if there was a commitment by the State Government to rehabilitate the site.

Also, council agreed that, if there was a commitment, Ballina Shire Council is to be active in requesting State Government and the Local Government Minister to follow through with rehabilitation to a reasonable standard.

Cr Susan Meehan put the motion to council based on a report in the Advocate on February 13.

That report cited former Northern Star editor Cliff Murray's book, Across Three Bridges, in which he records the then council's disappointment Black Head wasn't rehabilitated.
