Johnson fails in bid to put fluoride to community vote

BALLINA councillor Jeff Johnson has failed in a bid to have a community poll on fluoride included at the next council elections.

No other councillors supported the proposal at a council meeting held last week.

The decision to add fluoride to the water was made by a handful of councillors without any public consultation, said Cr Johnson.

Cr Johnson claimed that Ballina councillor Sue Meehan believed those who oppose adding fluoride to water believe in "extreme green pseudo science."

People should be able to decide to take fluoride, he said.
