A love of all things Asian

VICTORIA Jeffery's friends describe her house as an unexpected delight, a sanctuary in the suburbs of Lennox Head.

"It starts at the front gate, because the courtyard is a magical wonderland space with coloured Dutch panels and crazy fibreglass ducks," explains Victoria.

"As soon as you walk through the door, the feeling of calm continues with a large altar table in the foyer with a 12th century brass bell.

"I have been going to Bali since 1970 and have always had a love of all things stone and wood, but it was only when I stared importing with my business Samsara that I was able to start collecting really special pieces," says Victoria.

"I mix that with my art work which I have collected from all over the place, from a Chinese panel from 1492 through to my favourite contemporary local artist Peta Laurenson.

"I have a beautiful painting by her of a blue geisha girl hanging in the entrance hall.

"I tend to divide my time between the formal lounge room and the sunroom.

"If I have visitors it's in the formal lounge room, but what really dictates where I spend my time is the weather.

"The sunroom for example is where I spend my time in winter.

"If I'm painting or sewing, compiling photos, I can spread out in the sunroom, it's like having a studio.

"What makes this home so special to me is the sense and ease of the house, there is nothing jarring about it, it's rather like the Art Deco period which I love, there is a sense of practicality married with curves.

"Celebrate the curves I say!"
