Top childcare group backs Abbott's national partnership plan

ONE of the nation's top childcare groups has backed an Abbott government move to extend a national partnership funding agreement on pre-school.

The agreement was extended this week by Assistant Education Minister Sussan Ley, to ensure funding for families of up 15 hours of preschool would still be available in 2015.

It would keep the current arrangements for one more year before wider reforms are expected in light of the Productivity Commission inquiry on early childhood education.

The Australian Childcare Alliance commended the extension, with vice-president Judy Atkinson saying it would provide more certainty for parents and the industry.
