Kristen Gardner listed for sentence over alleged drug crop

A FORMER Lismore hotel manager was listed for sentence on Friday for his alleged involvement in one of Australia's largest marijuana crops in the Southern Downs.

Kristen Gardner - the former manager of the Winsome Hotel and once a budding wedding photographer - is charged with producing marijuana with his father Michael Bennett Gardner at Inglewood.

Police found 22,000 plants and 3.59 tonnes of harvested dried marijuana which was worth $70 million on the black market when they discovered the crop on the 2225-hectare property in 2008.

They discovered eight fields of the drug, ranging from 10m long by 15m wide to 30m by 300m, had been grown.

All but half of one field had been harvested.

Gardener is one of nine siblings, some of whom have also faced charges related to the case.

The case came before Justice David Boddice in the Brisbane Supreme Court on Friday but there was some dispute about aspects that would be submitted to the court.

Mr Gardner's case is set down for mention again on Thursday, with the sentence expected in mid-September.
