FORENSIC specialist will take up to six months to complete an autopsy on a Kin Kin toddler allegedly beaten to death.
Shane Purssell Akehurst is charged with torturing and murdering his son Corby, who was weeks away from his second birthday.
Police allege Mr Akehurst threw Corby against a timber bed repeatedly in March when the toddler would not stop crying.
Corby's mother arrived home soon after and called emergency services. The child was then airlifted to the Lady Cilento Children's Hospital in Brisbane.
He died two days after the alleged attack from his injuries.
Brisbane Magistrates Court heard on Monday the police would need a further three months to put together a full evidence brief and deliver it to Mr Akehurst's defence team.
But the autopsy could take another three months beyond that.
Akehurst did not appear in court, and is not expected to appear at the next mention date.
The case will return to the Brisbane Magistrates Court on August 17. Mr Akehurst was remanded in custody.
