32GB of memories washed up in Tweed, owner found in London

A MAN and his camera full of holiday memories have been reunited after a world wide Facebook campaign.

Tweed Heads man Steve Carmody was at Fingal Beach, just south of the Tweed River mouth one day in January when he saw a washed up GoPro. Unsure if it still worked, he took it home.

The camera was dead, but he discovered the memory card was still alive and he managed to recover 32 GB of holiday photos and videos.

The last file on the card was a video showing it being washed away in moving water with the date marked September 24,2014.

But how could he find the owner?

Do you know this guy? He has lost his GoPro and a world wide Facebook effort is underway to reunite him with it.

He turned to Facebook and uploaded one of the holiday photos which featured a man with blonde hair and wrote:

"OK Facebook do your thing. If we can track down this bloke I have 32 GB of precious memories to be returned.

"If you lost a GoPro in the surf at Fingal Rovers SLSC in NSW Australia, the camera has been found on Fingal Beach at the Tweed River mouth.

"Bad news is the GoPro is dead, but your memory stick survives. Inbox me if you know this bloke."

The response was huge.

More than 8,500 shares later, Steve has found the owner of the camera.

His name is Chris Hesford and he lives in London.

Chris has told Steve he last saw it some 60 kilometres from where it was found.

"Apparently he'd lost it at Byron Bay," Steve told the ABC.

"He's very thankful that it's been found."
