2014 Nissan X-Trail starts from $27,990

ENTRY-level pricing for the new Nissan X-Trail has dropped $500.

The all-new X-Trail will hit showrooms in March starting from $27,990 for the base model 2.0-litre manual.

Sitting atop the range will be the all-wheel drive 2.5-litre Ti at $44,680. Seven-seat versions will be available from $31,580.

Much rounder looking and fulfilling modern design expectations, Nissan's new X-Trail is expected to strength its position in the growing medium-size SUV segment.

Already one of the most popular offerings, improved styling should broaden the appeal which takes the fight up to the Kia Sportage, Mazda CX-5, Subaru Forester, Toyota RAV4, Ford Kuga and Hyundai ix35.

Two petrol engines will be available, a 2.0-litre producing 106kW of power and 200Nm of torque, paired with manual transmission or a 2.5-litre powerplant producing 126kW of power and 226Nm of torque paired with an Xtronic automatic transmission.

All three trim grades, ST, ST-L and Ti, have the option of 4WD with the Nissan All Mode 4x4-i system.

"The introduction of the All-New Nissan X-TRAIL to the Australian market is one of our most hotly anticipated new product launches to date," said Nissan Motor Company (Australia) managing director and CEO Peter Jones.

"The X-TRAIL has been a mainstay in the Nissan product line-up for many years and has proven a favourite with the Australian public. So we are excited to be bringing the All-New X-TRAIL into Nissan dealerships from March.

"X-TRAIL is one of our strongest nameplates, with around 140,000 sold in Australia since its introduction in 2001, making the launch of the all-new model an important and exciting time for Nissan."
