2011 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG an absolute stunner
FOR this week's blog, I will be featuring this 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG in an absolutely stunning shade of AMG Le Mans Red Metallic paint. The SLS AMG was first released back in 2009 at the Frankfurt Motor Show as the spiritual successor to the Mercedes-Benz 300SL. The SLS brings back the famous gullwing doors, which are hinged on the roof and swing upwards; as if this car wouldn't attract enough attention as it is!
Sitting underneath the almost two-metre long bonnet is a huge 6.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine, which is capable of producing up to 420 kW @ 6,800 rpm and 649 Nm of torque @ 4,750 rpm. When this car was first launched, Mercedes-Benz themselves claimed that the 6.2-litre V8 in the SLS was the most powerful naturally aspirated engine in the world. It didn't hold the title for long, as the $2,500,000 AUD Aston Martin One-77 took over shortly after with its 559 kW 7.3-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine!
Connected to the engine in the SLS is a six-speed automated manual transmission, which sends the power through a limited-slip rear differential and then onto the rear wheels. This matched with 420 kW makes for a very tail happy car with the traction control turned off.
This particular model also has a kerb weight of 1,621 kilograms.
When the launch control button is pressed, the SLS is able to take off from 0-100 kilometres per hour in just 3.8 seconds, and it will keep accelerating until it reaches its top speed of 317 kilometres per hour.
For those of you that don't know, launch control is an electronic aid that allows the driver to launch from a standstill in the shortest time possible. When you accelerate, the system eliminates as much wheel spin as possible and finds the most amount of grip available.
Some other features that this model is equipped with includes AMG seven-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in performance tires, 4-wheel ABS as well as traction and stability control, self-levelling xenon headlights, electronic brake force distribution, emergency braking preparation and assist, daytime running LED's, a black leather interior, an AMG leather/alcantara steering wheel, carbon fibre interior options, and much more!
You can purchase a 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG for around $280,000-$310,000.
