200 mine jobs coming with $35m North Queensland project

ABOUT 200 jobs will be created at a Cape York bauxite mine that will generate about $5 billion in revenue.

The Bauxite Hills Project received three mining leases from the State Government and now needs some environmental approvals before the start of mining mid next year.

Metro Mining has already started construction on the project, about 100km north of Weipa on the western cape, which will cost about $35 million.

Mines Minister Anthony Lynham said the granted leases were critical for the project to proceed into planned production.
