125 years of stories to be shared at school celebration

CABBAGE Tree Island Public School will celebrate its 125th anniversary on Saturday with a community event.

The students have been researching the history of the school in the lead-up to the event, and also preparing artworks, practising traditional dances and completing environmental education projects that they will share on the day.

Renowned Bundjalung artist, Digby Moran is a former student of the school.

An Elders' tent will provide the community opportunities to sit down and share stories of the school.

A new yarning circle will be launched on the day along with a student-driven, historical song and video clip of the students produced with the One Vision company.

As for the entertainment, there will be storytelling, jumping castle, and a mechanical bull, along with performances by the students.

And a barbecue and cafe will be operating.

Ballina High School students have helped the primary kids learn the traditional dances, along with Uncle Alwin and Sophie.

The celebrations will be held from 10am to 4pm. For more information, phone the school on 66834251 or email cabbagetre-p.school@ det.nsw.edu.au.
