KNOWN as Edward19002, Edward Glendinning, at 103, might be one of the oldest users of Skype.

Mr Glendinning, who is deaf, can't use the phone but can hear through Skype.

"I talk to my son," he said.

He also chats to people in Scotland and anyone else online.

"I like to talk to people," he said

Skype allows him to communicate. When talking face-to-face, Mr Glendinning said he could only hear people who spoke in a certain tone through his hearing aide but most of the time it was just noise.

He said sometimes he turned off his hearing device to escape the racket.

Although he turns 103 today, Mr Glendinning said it would be just another day.

Asked how he had reached the grand age, Mr Glendinning, with his quick wit and Scottish accent, answered "I just haven't died yet".

He also thinks eating porridge with real cream as a boy helped.

"My grandmother used to put real cream on everything," he said.

"I love my milk and cream."

Born in Scotland on March 26, 1910, Mr Glendinning worked on his family's farm, tried his hand as a chauffer and was a member of the British Royal Air Force during the Second World War.

After being sponsored to work in Australia, he and his family came to Mackay to work in the sugar industry.

He said he'd never had any complaints about Mackay.

Mr Glendinning enjoys sitting in his blue chair reading his papers, including the Daily Mercury and Scottish news online.

He enjoys stories about people and reads the letters to the editor.

He sometimes shares his opinions by writing his own letters or SMSs.
