100 strikes for liquor offences

PUBS and clubs are being reminded to stick to the state's liquor laws after more than 100 strikes for serious liquor offences were recorded since the program began in 2012.

Two local venues - the Northern Rivers Hotel in Lismore and the Henry Rous Hotel at Ballina - each have one strike.

The Henry Rous Hotel received its strike for an offence in August last year, relating to allowing liquor to be sold or supplied to a minor and for selling/supplying liquor outside authorised hours.

The Northern Rivers Hotel's strike was for supplying liquor outside authorised trading hours in May 2012.

Minister for Hospitality, Gaming and Racing, Troy Grant, said 93 licensed venues now have strikes for serious offences under the Liquor Act, including seven venues with second strikes, and two with third strikes.

"Since the scheme began in 2012, 102 strikes for serious liquor offences have been recorded by venues across the State including hotels, nightclubs, bottle shops, registered clubs, restaurants, karaoke bars and licensed vessels," he said.

Mr Grant said the strikes meant licensed venues were effectively on a "good behaviour bond" for three years.

Three strikes can result in increased compliance and monitoring.

Venues on the Three Strikes register will pay more under NSW's risk-based annual liquor licensing fee scheme to counteract the additional regulatory effort.
