Missing Torres Strait boat found safe

A LOST boat with 10 people on board has arrived safely at Saibai Island after a massive air and sea search was launched.

According to Queensland Police, the boat was blown off course as it travelled from Yam Island on Sunday.

The three children and seven adults on board stayed overnight at a Papua New Guinea Village before arriving on Saibai just before noon today.

A BOAT with ten people on board has been reported overdue in the Torres Strait overnight.

Inquiries have indicated the vessel, a 23ft longboat, left Yam Island for Saibai Island around 9am yesterday morning.

The vessel was reported overdue around 6pm last night when it failed to arrive at Saibai Island.

There are believed to be at least three children on board.

An aerial search along the coastline in between Yam and Saibai Islands last night failed to locate the vessel.

An air and sea search recommenced at first light this morning, and is currently ongoing.
