The purpose of this position is to lead, facilitate and implement TAIHS’ WH&S Plan including fire safety and security throughout all TAIHS sites and programs.  This is to be achieved though the provision of specialist advice, guidance and leadership within health, safety, fire safety and wellbeing to all staff, clients and applicable contractors; and monitor and report upon the operation of the WH&S Plan.  The goal of WH&S is to promote the highest practicable standard of WH&S within TAIHS and to ensure compliance with legislation and national standards for WH&S.


  • Develop, implement, update and monitor WH&S Policy, programs and procedures and increase awareness within the organisation
  • Develop and continually update Safe Work Practices (SWP’s and safe work method statements and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)
  • Investigate and report on all serious/critical personal injury accidents occurring to staffs, clients and visitors to the CEO or relevant Executive Manager
  • Manage the Risk Assessment & mitigation processes; coordinate WHS meetings and reporting requirements and undertake WH&S projects as required
  • Assist with the management of Rehabilitation and Return to Work programs and WorkCover claims
  • Develop, implement, update and monitor the building fire safety regulatory requirements
  • Perform the role of TAIHS Fire Safety Advisor (FSA)


Qualifications and Experience

  • Suitably qualified to be appointed as a WHS Officer holding the Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (BSB41415) and gained the certificate of authority from Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) and/or higher-level tertiary qualifications (greater than 3 years)
  • Possess qualifications as Trainer and Assessor, licenced Security Advisor and Workplace Rehabilitation and Return to Work Co-Ordinator (desirable)
  • Detailed knowledge of all legal processes for WH&S compliance and workers compensation law, along with a detailed knowledge and understanding of emergency and critical management principles
  • Suitably qualified to be appointed as a Fire Safety Advisor (FSA) and substantial experience in this field (greater than 3 years) with the ability to bridge the WHS requirements to emergency plan and the associated Australian Standards and maintain current certification and FSA network membership


Practical Requirements

  • Current C Class Drivers Licence (Qld) – essential
  • Hold or ability to obtain a current Positive Notice ‘Blue Card’ for working with children and young people
  • Hold or ability to obtain a current the National Police Certificate

•    Work out of normal hours of duty, including some week-ends and travel across the region may be required
