Work to begin on new surf club

CONSTRUCTION of the new Ballina surf club could start within two months, having gained council development approval. Work on the $5.8m project is expected to start in June, and take about 12 months to complete.

Ballina Lighthouse and Lismore Surf Life Saving Club will have Shelly Beach as patrol headquarters for the 2012-13 season while work is being undertaken.

Club president Kris Beavis said members would start packing equipment this week in preparation for the move.
