Which Greek Island suits your travel style?

WHEN considering the Greek Islands for a holiday, it can be a tough process of elimination to decide which ones to put on your itinerary.

Do you just draw a name out of a hat and hope you've picked the island most suited to your travel style?

Well the good news is, you really can't go wrong with any of the islands as each is as diverse as the next.

However, if you'd prefer to make an educated choice, we've picked out five of the best islands and given you a rundown on what to expect when you sink your toes into the golden sand.

With Scoot now offering one-stop connection flights from Gold Coast Airport, getting to Athens is easy and every island is just a boat ride away so you'd be crazy not to put at least one of these destinations on your bucket list!

Find out which island is right for you:

SANTORINI: the romantic island

Potentially the most stunning island of all, Santorini is not surprisingly one for the romantics. The island's villages are perched high on cliff edges that curve around the ocean offering postcard scenery at every glance. Watching the sunset over the ocean from one of the rooftop restaurants will leave a lasting impression and it is known to inspire a few one-knee proposals (hint, hint, loved ones).

MYKONOS: the party island

Think blue skies, white cobble-stone paths and breathtaking views. Now add in crowds of tanned bodies, beachside DJs and vibrant nightlife. Welcome to Mykonos, the party island. Described by Lonely Planet as "St Tropez meets Ibiza", it is no surprise Mykonos is one of the most popular islands among the youthful crowds. But, head north and you will find some quieter beaches for some privacy and relaxation.

IOS: the fun island

Another one with a party reputation, but don't be turned off; there is so much to do in Ios, you'll be spoilt for choice. The partying is wild, the adventure dial is on full bore but the chill factor is just as widespread. Enjoy water sports, boat trips and snorkelling, or explore the winding footpaths of the hilly island. It may take a few flights of stone stairs to get to your room, but it makes the views all the more spectacular.

CRETE: the exploration island

The artistic landscapes will win you over from the start, but as she continues to unveil her beauty, Crete will have you falling more and more in love with her unique charm. As the largest of the Greek Islands, it is often said Crete should be its own country and when you see it for yourself, you'll understand why. A culture drenched in rich history, the island is peppered with vestiges each with their own story. The magnificent monasteries, chapels and churches are a must-see for the full Crete experience.

RHODES: the family getaway island

Gather the kids, grab your swimmers and a good book at head to Rhodes if you're after a family getaway. This island is just as stunning as the rest with a 30-mile stretch of golden beaches to let the kids run wild. Some of the main resorts on the island offer kids club facilities including watersports and a range of fun activities. Explore Rhodes Town in the north of the island for a waltz back through the centuries.

If the sound of these islands don't stir up the travel bug within, then nothing will. Head HERE for more information on how to get to Athens with Scoot, only one stop from the Gold Coast.
