- Reviewer's last words: Rude, crude and fun, this reunion brings back together all of the things that made the original American Pie a hit.
NO pies were harmed in the making of American Reunion, but there are still plenty of gross-out moments in the latest addition to the film franchise.
The movie sees the entire original American Pie cast, not just the lead characters, back together again for a belated 10-year high school reunion.
It's been eight years since many of the actors worked together on American Pie: The Wedding.
The cast's real-life reunion, as well as confident direction by Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, helps this long-awaited reboot return to the things that made the original film so entertaining.
"We're like high school classmates," star Jason Biggs said of his co-stars.
"We share this very important experience in our lives and we can go years without seeing each other but when you come back together it's like we haven't missed a beat."
Biggs and much of the main cast were in Australia recently for the film's world premiere in Melbourne.
"There were thousands of fans," he said.
"It was really cool. It was my one moment to feel like I was in Twilight."
And the stars stuck around to watch the film with the audience.
"We were all really curious to know how it was going to be received abroad," Biggs said.
"And Eugene (Levy) hadn't seen it yet. I really wanted to be there with him and see his reaction to it."
Biggs clearly has a soft spot for his on-screen father, who finally gets to "let loose" in the latest film.
"It's the first time we've seen his character open up like that," he said.
"There's the device of having my (on-screen) mom die. I hate to sound so technical about it but it's a great tool for the storyline.
"It creates the opportunity for the roles to be switched. I get to give him advice."
Biggs goes all out for the film, which is saying a lot based on the raunchy nature of the franchise thus far.
The actor said his full-frontal nude scene was actually less nerve racking than his intimate scene with the apple pie in the original film.
"I have the confidence to go to those places because I've done it in the past with this character and it's worked," he said.
"The first time where I got with the pie, it was a different story. I showed up on the day of filming thinking 'oh my God, am I really going to do this? What if no one sees the movie?'"
American Pie paved the way for teen films like Superbad and The Inbetweeners Movie.
But Biggs said the cast and crew were never out to be raunchy just for shock value.
"The key to the franchise is about surprising people but they (the scenes) all have to make sense," he said.
"These characters give us permission to go to these places."
American Reunion opens on Thursday.

Unfortunately this film falls at the exact same hurdles as its prequel - good visuals and demi-god versus monster action but seemingly no effort put into the script.
Salmon Fishing in the Yemen
Stars: Ewan McGregor, Emily Blunt, Kristin Scott Thomas, Amr Waked.

An offbeat and sweet love story but one which ultimately many movie-goers might forget. Scott Thomas, rather than McGregor or Blunt, delivers the best performance.

Another amusing and delightful romp from the makers of Arthur Christmas. Plasticine meets CG animation to create enchanting visuals.
