WESTS Tigers ran down the Warriors and held on to escape 24-22 winners at Leichhardt Oval in a thrilling encounter that star five-eighth Benji Marshall hailed as his side's best of the season.

After a lethargic opening in which they looked like they desperately missed the stability and creative input of captain Robbie Farah, who is in camp with New South Wales ahead of Wednesday's State of Origin opener in Melbourne, the Tigers overturned a 10-0 half-time deficit to pile on four tries.

They had to endure a nerve-wracking ending, but the match was sealed when full-back Tim Moltzen ghosted through for a try in the 78th minute.

"Tonight's our best performance of the year I think in terms of attitude and our goal-line defence was pretty outstanding tonight," Marshall told Grandstand.

"We've won three in a row pretty ugly to tell the truth."
