Teen claims diving silver on debut

AUSTRALIAN teen Brittany Broben claimed a stunning silver medal in the diving at her debut Olympics.

The 16-year-old held her nerve in five dives in the women's 10-metre platform final to finish behind Chinese defending champion Chen Ruolin, who scored 422.30 points in claiming gold.

Chen, 19, was in a class of her own, peeling off five fantastic dives to beat Broben by 55.8 points in the most convincing victory in the seven diving events so far.

It was a second gold medal for Chen in London following her victory in the synchronised 10m platform with Wang Hao.

Pandelela Rinong claimed the bronze with 359.20 to give Malaysia a first ever Olympic diving medal.
