SMASHING it out on the drums is not only fun it is also a great way to relax.

The Samba-Blisstas are a street troupe of performers who dress from head to toe in red and bang their drums.

Musical director and founder Paul Barrett said the drumming was inspired and modelled on the Brazilian form of samba street percussion.

"Everyone just loves it," he said.

"Everyone is attracted to it to relieve stress and get out of that frame of mind."

Mr Barrett said drumming had also been proven to boost the immune system, reduce tension and anxiety and reduce blood pressure.

Leanne Patch, who attends sessions held at Kingscliff, said she was in love with the drums and everything the Samba-Blisstas had to offer.

"I absolutely love it and everything about it," she said.

"I had a high pressure job and it is great to just get behind a mask and transform into another person."

Ms Patch was never into performing until she dressed entirely in red and joined the Samba-Blisstas.

"Now I am just a lover of performing," she said.

"I'm actually a bit of a show pony."

Next year you will have the opportunity to see the troupe in action at Bleach festival.

The troupe has performed all over the country for various events including Oprah's visit to Australia earlier this year.

For the chance to try something different drop in and hang out with the Samba-Blisstas any Wednesday at the Kingscliff Bowling Club.
