SPLENDOUR in the Grass has won approval to hold the festival at its Yelgun site after the NSW Government this morning gave the event its final tick of approval.

The approval follows a years-long battle between Splendour organisers and Yelgun residents, which took the issue to the Land and Environment Court after Byron Shire Council approved a trial of the festival at the site, ultimately getting the approval overturned.

A spokeswoman for North Byron Parklands, the company responsible for the site, said the Planning and Assessment Commission had approved a five-year trial running until 2017 allowing three events per year catering for between 10,000 and 35,000 patrons each.

None of the events to be held at the site are allowed to run longer than four days and the site may host a total 10 festival days each year.
