THE Dictator wants to meet our "Slippery Pete".

Embattled Speaker of the House and Sunshine Coast MP Peter Slipper was the butt of jokes when comedian Sacha Baron Cohen arrived in Sydney this morning to promote his upcoming film, The Dictator.

Baron Cohen, in character as fictional leader of the Republic of Wadiya, General Aladeen, announced he had come to meet "Slippery Pete".

"The Slipper is great. What is his number? I need to hire him," he shouted.

Mr Slipper has recently stood aside as Speaker while criminal allegations that he misused taxpayer-funded Cabcharge dockets are dealt with.

He also faces allegations he sexually harassed staff member James Ashby.

Baron Cohen's new character is not one to shy away from the headlines.

Back in February he arrived in character at the Academy Awards and tipped an urn of "ashes" belonging to Kim Jong Il over interviewer Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet.

Baron Cohen's character in the satirical film has been modelled on Saddam Hussein and Muammar Gaddafi.

He is well know for his roles as Ali G, Borat and Bruno.

The Dictator is in cinemas from May 16.
