Simpson wins US Open
WEBB Simpson has won the US Open at San Francisco's Olympic Club after a dramatic final round.
The 26-year-old saw off the challenge of 2010 champion Graeme McDowell and American Michael Thompson to post a one-shot victory.
Simpson went into the clubhouse with a one-stroke lead after a superb chip out of the rough on the 18th hole put him in the driving seat to win his first Major.
Wedged deep in the long grass on the edge of a bunker, he dinked his controlled approach to within four feet of the hole to the delight of the large gallery huddled around the green.
Simpson made the short putt to card a 68 for the round and put immense pressure on overnight leaders Jim Furyk and Colin McDowell in the day's final group.
