Prison trucks heading for Grafton

ORGANISERS of the protest against job cuts at Grafton Jail have learned three prison trucks have been spotted near Newcastle heading for Grafton.

A truck driver whose brother has been on the picket line at the jail was following the trucks and saw them pull over near Ourimbah, south of Newcastle around 9am today.

"He spoke to the drivers and they told him they were heading for Grafton," the contact said.

"It's about a seven-hour drive from where they were spotted to Grafton."

A spokesman for the protest organisers, Tony King, said he had also been tipped off about the trucks.

"We're in a meeting at the moment, and we'll be talking about this information," Mr King said.

The picket line outside the Grafton Jail remains strong with a crowd of protesters guarding both jail entrances.

Organisers say the picket line will be maintained during today's rally in Memorial Park in Grafton starting at 12.15pm.
