People vie for personalised plates

GEOFF Maynard has spent the last eight years collecting the pick of prized personalised plates.

And now he wants to share them, all for a good cause.

Geoff, who lives in Jambin, 30km north of Biloela, is hiring out his collection of 25 of the most sought-after plates in Queensland, donating all proceeds to charity.

Rent-A-Plate allows people, from anywhere, to rent a set of plates for either six or 12 months.

"I didn't want to collect them without being able to do something with them," Mr Maynard said.

"My wife and I have auctioned off ones in the past for charity at State of Origins and that.

"I just thought why not share the fun with people and swing some of that money back to great local causes," he said.

Mr Maynard said renting plates was a cheaper option to buying and allowed people to change their minds.

"You're not stuck with the same plates forever," Mr Maynard said.

He said they would donate money to the children's charity Variety as well as a number of smaller causes.

"There's a lot of rural and regional families struggling in the area so we'll try to help some of them out," he said.

Mr Maynard said Personalised Plates Queensland fully supported the idea and that the rental costs included all registration fees.

"You'll still have to fill out a bit of paperwork but then that's it," he said.
