Palmer wields axe at Coolum

EMPLOYEES at the Palmer Resort Coolum have not been guaranteed to keep their jobs in the wash-up of ongoing business restructuring.

However they have been invited to apply for positions becoming available through the creation of "new operations" at the resort.

In a response to emailed questions, general manager Bill Schoch said: "We have reviewed our operations as a business and some operations are redundant.

"New operations have been created and will continue to be created along sound business lines to take our resort business forward.

"Staff can apply for the new operational positions. Some or many may take a redundancy package."

The questions were put to the resort after claims that all staff were being made redundant and would have to reapply for their positions.

Human resources manager Caroline Sorby said that that was "incorrect information", adding that the resort was "trying to keep the job losses down to a minimum".

Mr Schoch said he was unable to say how many staff he expected would take redundancies, and how many would decide to leave or not reapply for positions under the new operations.

"This will be an ongoing process across the whole resort," he said.

Some interviews for positions in one restructured department were held yesterday.
