NOOSA-based tennis player Calum Puttergill, 23, has been banned for six months and fined more than $13,000 for placing bets on tennis matches.

In a statement, the Tennis Integrity Unit said Puttergill used two online betting accounts with Sportsbet, to place 291 bets on tennis matches between May 29, 2012, and November 16, 2014.

None of the matches bet on were ones Puttergill played in. However, under the Tennis Anti Corruption Program, competition players are banned from betting on any professional tennis match, at anytime, anywhere in the world.

Puttergill, who is ranked 891 in the world for doubles and and 1207 for singles, received his six month ban and fine after a hearing before independent Anti-Corruption Hearing Officer Richard McLaren in London.

He was fined a total US$10,000 (AU$13,332) with half the fine and half the ban suspended provided he does not breach anti-corruption rules again before July 11, 2017. Any further breaches would trigger a fresh six-month ban and require the full payment of the fine.

The suspension means Puttergill is excluded from competing in, or attending, any tournament or event organised or sanctioned by the governing bodies of the sport, for the duration of the sanction.
