A MURWILLUMBAH junior swimmer seems to have a big future after claiming a state title and setting records.

Anthea Warne broke the 100m freestyle record for 11 year olds at the Queensland age championships last month with a time of 75 seconds.

Anthea, who trains at the Tweed Regional Aquatic Centre (TRAC) in Murwillumbah, followed that up by winning four medals at the 2013 NSW State Age Championships, held at Sydney Olympic Park on January 5.TRAC's Murwillumbah complex head swimming coach and Anthea's coach for a Gavin Urquhart said he started supplementing that training with one session a week at the Miami pool as part of a relay team.

"Anthea is a truly talented swimmer who is always prepared to work hard and excel in competition at the highest level," Mr Urquhart said.

"Her parents, Doug and Nicole, have provided great support to a very modest but focused athlete who is achieving some extremely exciting results." Anthea set personal best times for all her events at the 2012 Queensland Championships at Brisbane Aquatic Centre. Her record-breaking victory in the 100m freestyle was complemented by:

2nd in the 100m butterfly (1:08.47)

5th place 200m Butterfly (2:33.34)

9th place 200m Freestyle (2:18.85)

Her 100m freestyle victory and record earned her added recognition as 'Swimmer of the Session' on the championships' final day.

Mr Urquhart said Anthea then showed a great fighting spirit to contest seven events at the NSW titles, where she finished with two firsts, a second, a third, a sixth, a 10th and an 11th.

"She then demonstrated her prowess in the surf by stopping off on her way home from Sydney and contesting the NSW Surf Lifesaving Country Championships at South West Rocks," he said.

"She bagged an individual gold medal in the Under 12 Surf Swim and team gold for the Cudgen Nippers in the Surf Teams event."
