HE doesn't play fetch and refuses to come when he's called but Zeus the pet python loves an outing in the park.

The McFarland family were spotted by the Daily at Charles Clarke Park in Mooloolaba on Monday afternoon with their pet Black-Headed Python, lazing in the sun beside other families enjoying picnics and fishing in the Mooloolah River.

Brodie McFarland, 13, said they liked to take Zeus with them on outings and he always attracted plenty of attention with people often requesting photos with the handsome reptile.

At five years of age, the native of northern Australia is well over 2 metres long and by the look of him, very well fed.

This was a comforting thought as Zeus slithered off away from all the attention towards a nearby picnic table to find his own patch of sun and probably some peace.

You'll be happy to know Brodie soon had him rounded up.
