Mooy might miss Wanders v Mariners grand final clash

SOCCEROOS midfielder Aaron Mooy missed the Western Sydney Wanderers 2-0 semi-final win over Brisbane because of his knee injury - he might miss Sunday's grand final against the Central Coast Mariners as well.

Before Friday's clash with the Roar, coach Tony Popovic said Mooy was close to playing again, but Mooy doesn't agree, saying he's only an even money bet at best to recover in time to play in the decider.

Mooy's injury is not the only concern Popovic has.

German defender Jerome Polenz limped off against the Roar with a recurrence of the quad injury he suffered against Melbourne Heart in round 25.

Popovic must also decide who replaces supsended winger Youssouf Hersi after he was shown a red card against Brisbane.

Kwabeena Appiah-Kubi is in the frame to replace Hersi - the 20-year-old has come off the bench for the Dutchman during the season.

A-League officials are hoping the showdown will attract a new crowd record for a final at the ground, beating the 41,689 that witnessed the inaugural grand final between Sydney and the Mariners in 2006.
